Your campaign's audience is the set of contacts who will receive it. This article explains how the default audience works, how to narrow it with filters, and how filter logic behaves.

The default audience

When you reach the Audience step, Campaigns starts with every contact imported for the selected WhatsApp channel. From there, you add filters to narrow it down.

Add filters

Narrow your audience using any available contact field, such as:

  • Country
  • Customer tier
  • Customer status
  • Purchase history
  • Other available contact fields

The audience count updates live as you add, edit, or remove filters, so you always see your current reach.

How filter logic works

Filters use AND logic: a contact must match every condition to be included. For example:

  • Country is Spain
  • Customer tier is VIP

Only contacts matching both conditions — VIP customers in Spain — are included.

Good to know:  OR logic between filters isn't currently supported. If you need two separate groups, create a campaign for each.

If your audience is empty

If no contacts match your filters, Campaigns shows an empty state and you can't continue until the audience is valid. Review your filters, and confirm contacts are imported for the selected WhatsApp channel.

How the audience is captured

For campaigns activated on launch and on drop-off, the audience is captured as a snapshot when the campaign starts. Contacts added or removed later are not added to or removed from that campaign execution.

FAQ

Which contacts are included by default?

All contacts imported for the selected WhatsApp channel, before any filters are applied.

Can I use OR logic between filters?

Not currently — filters use AND logic only.

My audience is empty — what should I check?

Review your filters and confirm that contacts have been imported for the selected channel. To check this, go to the Contacts section, filter by the relevant channel, and verify that contacts appear.

Remember that all filters must match (AND logic), so each additional filter will further narrow your audience.
